Warm, festive season greetings to you all.
We know this is a busy time of year for everyone, so to assist couples with their wedding planning, Celebration House will be open during the holiday period between Christmas and New Year, and will only be closed from 24th to 27th December inclusive and 1st to 3rd January 2010.
The National Wedding Show, London
Celebration House recently returned from exhibiting at The National Wedding Show held at Earls Court in London. It was by far our busiest show and, due to the wonderful goodwill visitors expressed towards our country and all it has to offer, we once again returned home feeling even more ‘Proudly South African’ than when we left! Wedding fashion 2010
As always, one of the highlights of The National Wedding Show was the fashion show, which was held four times a day over the course of the three-day event. I find that this show usually gives a clear indication of the direction bridal fashion will be taking over the next year.
This year’s fashion show - described as being all about glamour, glitz and loads of romance, with a return to the 1920s and 1940s eras - was by far the most exciting one I’ve seen. Clever choreography transformed it from just a succession of bored models in wedding dresses, to a most visually entertaining event. Indeed, this year the models - especially the good-looking males taking part - actually looked as though they were having fun!

Christmas gifts
Looking for some useful Christmas gifts? Any newly engaged couple would love to receive a copy of our popular book, The really useful WEDDING BOOK for South Africa, which contains practical, down-to-earth information on all aspects of organising a wonderful wedding. The book is available from leading booksellers in South Africa, and may also be bought online (click here). (We are thrilled that it has become a set-work at one of South Africa’s leading colleges.) We are also offering it to visitors to Celebration House at a greatly reduced price. Click here to read what others have to say about this very useful book.
Another popular book we are offering at a festive price is the 11th edition of Pam Black’s best-seller, The A-Z of Factory Shops in the Western Cape. This is the book no bargain hunter should be without. To find out why we always say that ‘only the uninitiated pay full price’, click here.
This month's interesting question
Q: On which leg do I wear my garter?
A:
When dressing for your wedding day, the garter is something that’s easy to forget. To ensure that there is no fumbling around at the reception, with the groom looking for it on the wrong leg, remember that it is traditionally worn on your right leg, above the knee.

This month's Green Tip
I thought it would be of interest to see what couples around the globe are doing to ensure that their wedding celebrations are not contributing to the problem of global warming. An Asian news channel reported recently that in Singapore, more and more couples are choosing to marry outdoors, in parks. This is due to the initiative of their National Parks Board, which is encouraging couples to have environmentally friendly weddings and offering them a 20% venue hire discount if they do so. To qualify for the discount, couples have to show the National Parks Board that they have taken at least eight environmentally-friendly measures for their wedding. These include using recycled paper for their wedding stationery, biodegradable ware or other environmentally friendly alternatives such as banana leaves or china for catering purposes and using a hybrid car for their bridal car. According to their Marketing and Promotions Manager, Yvonne Cheng, ‘...weddings generally generate quite a lot of waste, so we are trying to use this occasion to remind people that environmental consciousness is actually a very important part of our lives’.
Celebration House Top Tip
Get rid of the gum! A videographer once asked me to advise couples to ensure that all members of their wedding party had disposed of their chewing gum before the service. You only need to watch one American wedding video (or the FIFA 2010 World Cup Draw), to realize the importance of this advice!
